TANATOS Table
Anamorphosis is a distorted projection or perspective requiring the viewer to use special devices or occupy a specific vantage point to reconstitute the image.  With mirror anamorphosis, a conical or cylindrical mirror is placed on the drawing or painting to transform a flat distorted image into a three dimensional picture that can be viewed from many angles.
With this anamorphosis table, the artist uses a cylindrical mirror, in this case he has used a brass canon bullet shell which he has polished and made into a lamp.  The bullet shell cylinder is set into table to transform a flat distorted image into a three dimensional picture that can be viewed from many angles. The deformed image has been hand carved out of mother of pearl and inlayed into the flat surface of the table surrounding the canon bullet shell cylinder. By looking into the mirror image, the image appears undeformed, and one can see a perfect three dimensional image of a skull, which appears to be floating in the cylinder!
